Dr Derek Lok obtained his medical degrees in Hong Kong in 1990 and completed his PhD research in feto-maternal medicine at the University of Adelaide in 1994. He undertook his specialist training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Sydney and Adelaide, followed by subspecialist training in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) in Adelaide and the United Kingdom. Dr Lok was awarded Fellowship (FRANZCOG) in 2001 and the Subspecialist Certificate (CREI) in 2002. Dr Lok expanded his clinical experiences overseas in 2002 and 2003.

He is a consultant gynaecologist at Royal Prince Alfred, Liverpool and Westmead Hospitals and a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales, involving research and teaching of medical students, specialist and subspecialist trainings.

Dr Lok’s major interests are in different types of IVF treatment, including embryo selection through preimplantation genetic diagnosis, recurrent miscarriage and IVF treatment failure management.  He performs fertility treatments mainly through Genea but also through Westmead Fertility Centre and RPAH Fertility.

He has special interests and expertise in the areas of male factor infertility.  He is also a certified advanced (Level V) endoscopic surgeon specialising in fertility-related gynaecological surgeries and microsurgeries for both female (laparoscopic tubal reversal) and male (vasectomy reversal, microdissection sperm retrieval).
